Rio Arriba County has a more laid back attitude about what you can and can not do with real property in their jurisdiction. The county itself has one zoning designation (“Rural Residential”) and applies it to most all the land including this subdivision. While they do not allow you to live indiscriminately out of your RV, you can park and camp one in the same spot for up to 3 months, which is longer than you’ll find in most parts of New Mexico. Additionally, you can apply for an extension without a building permit and you will most likely be granted it provided you’ve kept the area clean (we’re told this particularly has to do with how you’re disposing of waste).
From the 573, there is a road with a gate which will lead you out to this property. We’re told the gate is open most days until 5PM. Fortunately there are at least four other points of ingress/egress to access the land. It should be noted, however, that a four wheel drive or other off-road capable vehicle will be needed the closer you get to the subject property as the last half mile consists only of dirt roads.
